Marketing Manager, Rowman & Littlefield Publishing Group (6/17/09)

Summary: Responsible for all marketing strategy as well as execution of promotions for the titles under Government Institute Press, Alta Mira Museum Studies, and Rowman and Littlefield Education.

Responsibilities:

  • Create and submit the annual marketing plan and budget for assigned imprints.

  • Plan and create all direct mail pieces related to assigned imprints

  • Serve as in-house marketing expert on the professional and government markets * Plan and submit advertising strategy in assigned areas

  • Work closely with the Sales and Publicity Departments to achieve maximum exposure and revenue. * Work closely with the Special Sales group to maximize sales to special organizations and customers outside the normal channels.

  • Work closely with the data transfer staff to make certain all ABIs are submitted to our major accounts in an accurate and timely manner.

  • Serve as principle liaison with editorial partners and Copublishers.

  • Support other members of the Marketing Department as needed.


Experience: BA degree plus at least 4 years of marketing experience in direct mail and emarketing. Proven ability in achieving targeted sales goals and budget management. Strong analytical ability as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills. Experience working with government agencies a plus.

Editor-in-Chief, Books, NAEYC (6/17/09)

NAEYC is seeking an Editor-in-Chief, Books. The Editor-in-Chief leads NAEYC's program of publishing books for professionals in the field of early childhood education (ECE) - teacher-educators and ECE students, as well as practitioners working with children birth to age 8.

The peer-reviewed program currently has annual sales of $3 million. NAEYC has in print 80+ books published or copublished by NAEYC, and distributes another 50+ books from other publishers.

The Editor-in-Chief's main responsibility is to seek, develop, and acquire books for the association to publish and distribute, with the goals of furthering the association's mission, meeting the needs of ECE learners, and providing revenue in support of NAEYC's programs and activities.

The Editor-in-Chief is responsible for ensuring that each book selected meets the highest content and editorial standards regarding ECE best practice, the current research base on how children develop and learn optimally, readability, and presentation. Each year the Editor-in-Chief also is responsible for selecting which five to six new titles will be Comprehensive Member benefits, distributed bi-monthly to NAEYC's 25,000 Comprehensive Members.

The Editor-in-Chief, who reports to the Deputy Executive Director for Professional Development, represents the Books program, its work and its goals, to the other NAEYC departments, the national Governing Board and other association leaders, NAEYC members, outside organizations, and the public. The Editor-in-Chief networks with peers in other publishing organizations, as well as prominent researchers, authors, policy makers, and educators in the ECE field.

Major responsibilities:

  • Shape the content and direction of the Books program and its relationship to other NAEYC professional development initiatives,

  • Seek, develop, and acquire book manuscripts for NAEYC to consider for publication,

  • Direct the peer review process; accept/reject submitted manuscripts,

  • Oversee the work of the department's staff (currently 3 editors & 1 designer),

  • Lead developmental editing; work with authors, reviewers, staff editors, and consultants to shape each manuscript's content, focus, and style,

  • Expand the print program aligned with the association's website and other new media applications,

  • Collaborate with the other departments to develop collateral materials (i.e. webcasts, online chats, journal articles, brochures) that support and extend the books product line, and

  • Identify high-quality books by other publishers to distribute.

Georgetown University Press seeks a part-time Marketing Assistant to support all departments at the Press by managing and administering its press-wide FileMaker Pro database. The Marketing Assistant will work with staff to make changes and improvements to the database as necessary; maintain the population of sales and fulfillment data; maintain efficient, accurate, and frequent flow of data to all appropriate industry contacts via ONIX feed; manage and administer the Press website by performing frequent upload of information to the site, updating content, analyzing statistics and sales, and ensuring that all the information on the site is correct.

Bachelor’s degree required; up to one year of experience in publishing, preferably scholarly or nonfiction; proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Photoshop, Filemaker Pro or other databases. Excellent proofreading, writing, and organizational skills, as well as ability to juggle and prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities:

  • Driving efficient workflow of projects

  • Budgeting, scheduling, and database-tracking

  • Representing the department as a customer service representative, keeping client informed of status, coordinating and attending meetings as needed to outline project and review work-in-progress

  • Assigning, monitoring, and reviewing work of in-house and freelance editors, proofreaders, artists, designers, compositors, and printers

  • Acting as a focal point for all aspects of project coordination, monitoring resources and appraising management of project budgets and status
