Web and Publication Editor, ICMA (International City/County Management Association)

ICMA seeks a talented Web and Publication Editor who has experience in an online environment, including conducting online information gathering and using social media in a professional context. This position is designed for an individual with project management, editing, and communication talent in a publishing and online information management program. Individual with broad interests and a lively curiosity needs to have experience with cutting-edge research in website content as well as working knowledge of editorial principles and practices. To round out our editorial team, we would like our new Web and Publication Editor to have experience in working with local government. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:  
  • Acquires and oversees the posting of content for the ICMA Knowledge Network on ICMA's website.
  • Fosters relationships and communication with prospective experts, engaging them as participants in the Knowledge Network.
  • Manages the editorial process and monitors production progress, from manuscript development to publication.
  • Manages freelance editorial assignments.
  • Edits manuscripts and quality checks proofs for content and style before and after revisions.
  • Helps implement repurposing of content into different and multiple formats.
  • Understands the concepts of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and how SEO interrelates with content strategy.
  • Writes Web articles using research findings provided by staff
  • Initiates and schedules regular meetings with internal stakeholders to coordinate updates.
  • Identifies opportunities for audience engagement

The minimum qualifications to be competitive and considered for the position are:
  • Bachelor's degree in English, communications, political science, or related field, or the equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience working with website content.
  • Three to four years of a combination of copy editing and editorial project management experience.
  • Knowledge of editorial principles, practices, and techniques; excellent knowledge of English language, grammar, syntax, and usage
  • Online research skills and demonstrable social networking skills
  • Expertise and comfort in online relationship building
  • Analytical skills
  • Ability to work constructively  and collaborate with team members
  • Exceptional written, communication, and listening skills in order to communicate with authors and reviewers in evaluating, editing and modifying manuscripts
  • Experience in local government preferred.
